Why 8 AWG for commercial solar installations
8 AWG PV wire carries 55A at 90°C — 37% more current capacity than 10 AWG. It is the preferred gauge for longer DC string runs, high-current modules above 11A Isc, and commercial systems where voltage drop must stay below 1.5%. For residential installations with standard 400W modules and runs under 100 ft, 10 AWG 2000V PV wire is typically sufficient.
